The Collaboration
Since 1961, Birdwell Beach Britches has remained an integral symbol of surfing and the culture that surrounds it through its timeless approach to surfwear—purpose-built in design, time-tested in use, and a full commitment to the pursuit. Those characteristics are certainly ones we ascribe to accomplish in each issue of our magazine. And, TSJ’s ties to Carrie Birdwell’s namesake run even deeper and more direct. Their mission statement, “Quality is our gimmick,” was coined by our very own founder, Steve Pezman. At the core, it’s what both TSJ and Birdwell hang our hats on, and makes for a natural fit in partnership.
Essentials Only
Wax and fins. Trunks and rubber. A towel and something to swill when your feet hit sand again. A well-built craft and a pulse of swell. Like the act itself, surf gear ultimately boils down to the basics. And while we can’t help you with those last couple items, TSJ and Birdwell have teamed up to make sure the rest of your kit fits simply and securely in one place for day-trips and quick rundowns alike. We are proud to introduce the TSJ × Birdwell Tote Bag, a subscriber-exclusive offering that’s both bound in surfing’s roots and modernly functional. It isn’t just for the essentials. It is one.
Centered with a custom embroidered TSJ × Birdwell patch, the SurfNyl tote is constructed from the same rugged nylon found on Birdwell’s iconic board shorts and competition jackets—built specifically to spend a life in the sand and sun.
The bag also features a snap hook originally designed for sailboat rigging to keep things right where you left them, an interior drawcord key loop, and a back pocket with a pearl button closure to stash any extra ephemera. Hand cut and sewn in Santa Ana, California.
