“The archives of John E.O. Larronde are housed in three corrugated boxes that on most days sit undisturbed on a set of metal shelves in a room on the second floor of the Museum of Ventura County,” editor Alex Wilson writes in our current issue. “They contain photographs, newspaper clippings, technical drawings, cartoons, club patches, handbills, and shipping manifests.”

Among the records of pre- and post-war Southern California coastal life is a 16-minute, 16-millimeter film of 1940s surfing in Malibu and beyond shot by Larronde. We’re excited to screen his footage exclusively for TSJ members from March 2 through 8, courtesy of the Museum of Ventura County. Please consider donating to the museum here.
