This Delicacy Before Us

Kepa Acero and Dane Gudauskas find unique indulgences in Senegal.

Light / Dark

For Basque Countryman Kepa Acero, surf travel is more than chasing swells to the remote parts of the world. It’s about immersing himself in the local culture, even if that means eating rat when offered by his hosts.

“It’s just tainted with your way of seeing it,” Acero says about the cultural differences of edibility.

On his latest embedding in Senegal, Acero was accompanied by Dane Gudauskas, who penned an account of their experience hunting rats, dancing nonstop, and scoring right points with the locals in TSJ’s 30.1’s “This Delicacy Before Us.”
