A short film from South Africa’s desolate northwest coast.

“Frank Solomon and I have been camping along South Africa’s northwest coast for more than 20 years,” photographer Sacha Specker writes in our current issue. “I grew up bodyboarding in Cape Town, and back in the early 2000s there was a crew of older bodyboarders who introduced me to the area. They were pretty hardcore explorers, and were the first ones I knew who figured out the days when the conditions would be good. Frank and I have always tried to do the same for surfers younger than us, because there really is plenty of open space to get waves to yourself anytime you go. On this trip, we had the same idea to show Luke Slijpen, Luke Thompson, Noah Kahn, and Dale Staples the potential of a zone right in their backyard.”
