From Five Summer Stories to pioneering IMAX cinematography, filmmaker Greg MacGillivray tells all in his inspiring new volume.

In his new memoir, Greg MacGillivray both shows and tells behind-the-scenes moments from his nearly 60 years of filmmaking. As frothing groms, he and his late business partner Jim Freeman began making surf films in their early teens in the 1960s. The duo released iconic surf cinema, most notably Five Summer Stories (1972). Inevitably, Hollywood took notice of his talent and MacGillivray Freeman Films became the only documentary production company to gross $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales. He candidly shares stories of working with mainstream directors like Stanley Kubrick. He gives reports from harsh, remote, and exotic locales from the sets of Academy Award-nominated IMAX documentaries like The Living Sea (1995).

Included in 500 Summer Stories are 40 QR codes linking to short films about each chapter. These videos are an added layer of storytelling that build on MacGillivray’s already in-depth words and beautiful imagery found on each page.
