Having surfed for about 45 minutes, I caught a wave to the beach. It was just crazy perfect out, glass, no one around. Then these purple mutation colors started happening. Running back out the point for another go-round, I thought I’d try and get a quick shot for the memory files. I had a small old Canon and actually shot it with a fisheye, if you can believe that. I scrambled up the granite rocks to an overview vantage, and when I got to the top this smoking set came in. Shoot. Score. I remember Snips (Mike Parsons) walking by right at that moment, and we were both just out of our minds freaking. That was it, a five-minute snapshot that will forever be etched in my mind’s eye. —G. Growing up a surfer on the Central Coast of California meant Geoff was far enough removed from the surf industry’s cult of influence to live a relatively pure wave-riding existence. After mucking around Pismo through his teenage years, Geoff eventually attended the University of Oregon to study magazine journalism. However, in retrospect, it was the time spent exploring Oregon’s vast wilderness and his year-long globetrotting sabbatical that laid the groundwork for what he’s doing today. Still a dedicated traveler, his images convey the essence of our world’s vast and far-flung wave fields.
