We are here for a good time, not a long time. I don’t interpret this as a hedonistic moral to live by, but more rather an appreciation of how short life is and a drive to make valuable use of it. Incredible support from family and friends has allowed the realization of my ambitions via my photography. Nearly six years of continuous travel has done little to quench my thirst to see more. Travel is like a Ph.D. on life where you can continue to learn about people, cultures, and places. But you must travel with both open eyes and mind to gain the full benefit. As with photography, the learning process is never ending—not a job but a life. As the years go by, the more urgent it becomes to live life to the fullest.

This image was shot on one of the most remote regions of Australia's desolate coast. The super shallow reef is battered by Arctic swells and produces some of the most mutated wave forms on the planet. To me it represents the defining line of what can and cannot be surfed. The wave itself decides, but not until you are actually on the wave. It one of the most dangerous waves on the planet, and there is a lot of beauty in that danger. —T.G.

Aussie rules footie, pisser, graduate Royal Melbourne Institute, assistant to New York photojournalist Burt Glinn whose “technique taught me to unlearn everything… to document real things.” Longtime Surfer magazine and Australian Surfing Life A-team shooter, unflinching recorder of ethnic cultures, comely swimwear models, and sweeping tableaus. Craves over-the-edge locales. Remains calm when it hits the fan. Canon camera gifts his book to clients who visit their headquarters.
