The End, Almost
Paul H-O tells a tale of the bone-chilling Northeast surf experience. As a nor'easter barrels into the coast of Long Island, Paul heads out for a harrowing Late January session on his 7'0 gun.
Gone to Soldiers
Rest in peace Lieutenant Nainoa Hoe 1978-2005. "As winter swells approach, there will be one less among us."
First Person: Donald Takayama
The definitive piece on Donald Takayama as told to Scott Hulet. Dale Velzy noticed the young boy who grew up at Waikiki was shaping his own boards even at 9 years old, immediately inviting him to California, and the story begins. Now at 65 years young, "DT is surfing as fast and island-style as ever-no exaggeration."
Anchored: An Intergenerational Surf Trip
Photographer Jeff Hornbaker accompanies seven top tier female surfers on a boat trip to the Mentawais. Includes a plethora of full color photos of Megan Abubo, Kassia Meador, Lyndsay Noyes, Lee-Ann Curren, Steph Gilmore, Serena Brooke, and Sally Fitzgibbons.
More Side Orders
A series of short pieces by Kimo Hollinger. Hollinger talks about being "aged" and surfing the North Shore, signing books with Greg Noll, 9-11, saving people, Alligator Dusty, Val's Reef, and live music.
Nature Boys
Tommy Leitch profiles Australian surfer/artists, Jeff Raglus and Gerry Wedd. Raglus a painter and Wedd a potter by trade combine their work carving their own niche in the world of surfing and art.
B-Roll
A collection of Greg Weaver's B-Roll photos from 1969-1971. Greg spent years traveling the globe in search of cheap living and excellent waves. The locations included in this set of photos are: Europe, Mauritius, South Africa (with Mike Diffenderfer) and Hawaii. Artistically he notes his influences as Ron Stoner, George Greenough and Spyder Wills. Among the stories that accompany these photos, Weaver mentions Tamarin Bay on Mauritius and how it became the location for the movie Forgotten Island of Santosha, which he filmed in 1972-73.
Remember the Future
Richard Kenvin talks Simmons planing hulls. There is a place for the 60 year old design in the future foresees Kenvin, and slowly but surely the present is becoming the future right in Simmons old backyard.
