Mark Dillinger Portfolio

Mark Dillinger works in a research-intensive manner, but it's not exactly heavy lifting. Building up a creative head of steam for his Scorpion Bay paintings, Mark spent a total of two months over three trips shooting reference photos, sketching studies, and learning the nuances of sand flow, wind effects, and tide patterns. While people rarely appear in his work, Mark spends time with the locals. To his way of thinking, the sociological tenor of the fish camps finds its way into the paintings in a sub-surface way. Here are a few images from his notebook, and a finished piece that didn't find its way into the TSJ feature. -- Scott Hulet
